Jen and Sylvia Soska, the ladies behind Twisted Twins Productions, are kicking off WOMEN IN HORROR MONTH 2016 with their latest Massive Blood Drive PSA. For the past seven years, the horror directors have been creating campaign videos to support the urgent need for blood donors – usually with very gruesome results.
The twins explained the conception of combining giving blood with horror. “You can’t think “horror” without thinking “blood,” and horror is all about facing your fears. Anyway, what’s one small prick in a world filled with an epidemic of pricks, right?” Over the years the PSA has grown to include and spotlight artists from across the globe. Although Women In Horror Month focuses on women, they remind the community it is important to stay equal and allowed men who support the cause to participate.
We’re doubly excited this year because our friend Andy Stewart was selected to direct a segment of the PSA, and Andrea from the Popcorn Horror team acted in his short as a ‘follower’ of a macabre cult.
We’re also big fans of the work of Patricia Chica, who features this year. Her short film, which takes place at a night of burlesque will also be released as a longer piece titled Crimson Dance. Rising horror stars Jill Sixx Gevargizian, Maude Michaud, Gigi Saul Guerrero and the founder of Women In Horror Month Hannah Neurotica, returned to direct segments this year. Newcomers to the campaign include Nicole McClure (The Unbearable Lightness of Boning), Kate Taeuschel, Joe Magna (Hellevator), Veronica Hampson, Lisa Ovies (Puppet Killer) and Tristan Risk (American Mary, House of Manson).
Check out the fantastic, gory PSA below – though we should probably warn you that it’s very NSFW. And we would urge you all to give blood during February if you are able to!
