We’ve seen many Poe adaptations through the years, but here’s the classic gothic stories as you’ve never seen them before. Extraordinary Tales is a six part anthology animation which brings to life some of Poe’s greatest stories. Directed by Raúl García, the film is produced by Stephan Roelants, and co-produced by Raúl García, Rocio Ayuso, Serge Ume and Isabelle Truc. It also features the voice of Sir Christopher Lee, in one of his final performances.
As well as Lee, the voices of Bela Lugosi, Julian Sands, Roger Corman and Guillermo del Toro also feature. The stories are “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Pit and the Pendulum,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Facts in the Case of Mr. Valdemar” and “The Masque of the Red Death.”
Garcia shared with CartoonBrew his experiences working with Sir Christopher Lee;
“Working with Mr. Lee was a rare pleasure. He voiced the two characters in the film plus the narrator, a faithful adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s immortal horror story. His knowledge of Poe’s work gave his performance a special resonance.
I met Mr. Lee briefly and we recorded all the dialogue at his home, to make the task as easy as possible. We accommodated a complete recording studio in his kitchen, and recorded for two days. He was quite a sight to see: Sir Christopher Lee in his robe and slippers acting out in front of the mike.”
Check out the trailer below – and check out all the nods to classic horror films in there. We think the hypnotist looks suspiciously like Vincent Price. You can find out more about the film on Facebook.
