Tributes to Horror’s First Vampire – Max Schreck
There’s some debate over what is truly the first vampire film. There may have been up to 22, now lost films referencing vampires before 1922’s legendary Nosferatu, although most of these are considered to be referencing ‘vamps’ – seductive women.
Nosferatu was certainly the first movie adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, albeit unlicensed, and the first to solidify the supernatural elements of the vampire mythos. The actor who portrayed the central character Count Orlok, Max Schreck, is probably the earliest actor who can be called a horror icon. Born this day 1879, here’s our pick of the best fan tributes to the German actor.
