If you haven’t already, check out this wonderful little short film Pixels for a blast of nostalgic gaming goodness.
As awesome as that is, it’s taken until now for a film to be announced which blends the gaming characters of our childhoods with the classic monster movie genre. Pixels is directed by Chris Columbus (The Goonies, Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) and stars Adam Sandler, Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad as a trio of old-school arcade gamers who are tasked with using their gaming skills to save the world from giant video game sprites. The movie also stars Kevin James as the president of the United States, Jane Krakowski as the first lady and Michelle Monaghan as a weapons developer and military specialist. Based on the short film above by Patrick Jean, Pixels opens July 24.
Columbia pictures have released a set of beautiful posters for the film, which mash up the nerdy awesomeness of pixel artwork and monster invasion. Featured in the five posters are Pac-Man swallowing up San Francisco, Donkey Kong barreling down on Tokyo, Centipedes over London, a Galaga bug descending on Sydney and Space Invaders towering over Paris. You can see all five Pixels posters below. Check out the film’s official Facebook for more info.
