Last month we revealed that Popcorn Horror would be joining forces with TAMFEST for a Halloween festival inspired by Scottish legend. Tamfest is a unique celebration of Halloween and heritage as the spirits of the past come alive for a weekend of fun and frights; drawing on Robert Burns’ infamous 18th century epic ‘Tam o’ Shanter’.
We are thrilled to now be able to reveal the complete lineup of all the Popcorn Horror attractions and events that you’ll be able to find at the festival on the 27th October. Our horrific hub will be housed in the former Clydesdale Bank building in Ayr. If you enjoyed our Krampus themed Christmas market – you’re going to love our folk-horror, Scottish influenced market this Halloween. Artists and vendors will have an array of hand-made, innovative and spooky items available in the market area – with the opportunity to also pick up some Popcorn Horror merch also.
Will you dare enter the Auld Kirks Grotto, home of wicked witches and demons? Demonic and spellbinding characters will be haunting this Halloween grotto, giving the opportunity for some spine-tingling selfies and family photos. The monsters might even have a surprise for you, but beware – it could be a trick, or a treat.
Traditionally Halloween is the time when the boundaries between the dead and the living are weakest. Historically, Halloween signifies the end of the harvest season and is a time of renewal and spiritual intention setting. With this in mind, tarot readings with horror and Halloween themed decks will be offered by The Hidden Hermit.
Popcorn Horror will also have some spooky workshops on offer for visitors to the festival, with opportunities for both adults and children to get involved.
Create Your Own Halloween Comic will demonstrate how comic artists tell stories with few words, and how they create memorable characters who make us laugh and cry. Horror artists will be on hand to support participants in bringing their chosen elements together in their character and story design. By the end of the session, young artists will have completed a self-contained visual story, and have resources to continue drawing their character in further adventures should they want to.
100 Words or Less Horror Stories uses visual prompts as horror writers will have participants create a unique horror story in under 100 words. Old fashioned haunting tales, zombie uprisings and stories of monsters and mayhem are all welcome in this workshop for young people aged 8 – 14.
Sensory Halloween Crafts is designed for younger monsters. Halloween is all about slime, guts and everything gruesome! We should warn – you might get messy in this sensory Halloween workshop for younger children. We’ll be making our own slime, mixing up blood using recipes from the movies, and fishing around in jellied eyeballs for prizes. Learn how to create grizzly gags and have lots of messy fun this Halloween season.
Gore SFX Workshops will offer horror fans the chance to learn how to bring gruesome effects to life in their own horror projects.
