News Bites: New Indie Horror ‘Skinless’

Phantom Pain Films is an independent production/distribution company founded in 2013 and located in Cleveland. Fans of horror, sci-fi, exploitation, blaxploitation, sexploitation, adult, mondo, microcinema, underground, experimental and any other sort of offbeat cinema, the company aim to make these often marginalised genres available to a wider audience. They explain – “All too often those types of films are marginalized and, therefore, not given the type of attention and value more mainstream films receive. We’re not fans of that attitude. It is our mission to give these types of films the respect they deserve and make them available to you.”

Phantom Pain Films announced the midnight theatrical debut of Skinless, the newest micro-budget film from indie horror auteur Dustin Mills (The Puppet Monster Massacre, Bath Salt Zombies, Easter Casket) in Cleveland, March 8th 2014 at the Cedar Lee Theatre (2163 Lee Rd., Cleveland Heights, Ohio) and March 15th at the Capitol Theatre (1390 W. 65th St., Cleveland, OH).

The synopsis for the film reads – He was looking for a cure. What he found was a curse. Brilliant oncologist Peter Peel discovers a possible cure for skin cancer in the belly of an exotic parasite. When he tests the cure on himself his world is shattered and a monster is born. Skinless is a sad tale of madness, murder, monsters, and love.”

Dustin Mills grew up loving movies. His fascination with fantasy and monster movies developed into a passion for filmmaking and special effects after watching King Kong. Following that he spent years self-educating himself in photography, graphic design and filmmaking, culminating with the production of his first feature film. That film was The Puppet Monster Massacre, a horror/comedy feature comprised solely of puppets on a 4-figure credit card funded budget. Seeing release in 2010, reviewers took notice of Mills’ DIY spirit and fans loved the films unique voice and distinct vision. It has since seen release in multiple countries and gone on to garner an international following.

Since then Mills has worked tirelessly, having created 6 additional features(5 of them in 2013 alone!). These titles are Zombie A-Hole, Night of the Tentacles, Bath Salt Zombies, Easter Casket, Kill That Bitch, and the soon to be released Skinless. On each of these films Mills has filled almost every behind- the-scenes role earning him recognition as one of modern indie horror’s few true auteurs.
