It’s time for our mid-week News Bites, and there’s been some development with regards to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The teaser trailer was revealed today and featured the fantastic line “I need to speak to Caesar!” You can check out the trailer below.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, is the sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. While James Franco has not returned this time around, we do get Andy Serkis returning (in motion-capture) as Caesar, the ape who is now leading a revolution. We also get a glimpse at newcomers Jason Clarke, Judy Greer, Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee and of course Gary Oldman. There’s a sinister, brooding tone to the trailer that we appreciate!
The synopsis for the film reads – “A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.”

One of the most interesting elements of the new film is it’s marketing campaign. A viral site has gone live warning the population of the Simian Flu, which is the name given to the virus that wipes out the human population after it began spreading during the credits of the first prequel. The website lists the symptoms, along with an interactive map showing how quickly the virus spreads. There’s also a PSA which you can watch below.
20th Century Fox has Dawn of the Planet of the Apes scheduled for release on July 18th, 2014 next summer.
