Junji Ito is one of Japan’s most celebrated horror manga artists. His work is pretty unsettling, and often features themes such as body horror, monsters, punishment, and the inevitability of death. He was heavilly inspired by Lovecraft’s tales, and Guillermo del Toro is a big fan of his manga.
However, translating his drawings into real life horror’s is perhaps even more terrifying than the original images. Cosplayer Ikura, a young Japanese girl spends hours re-creating her favourite scenes and characters drawn by him. The results are some otherworldly makeup effects which really bring the dark images to life.
