Horror for the Weekend

It’s almost time for another weekend, and we’ve picked out some suggestions for your horror viewing over the next couple of days.

Lake Placid: The Final Chapter - 2012

First up, Lake Placid: The Final Chapter was released to Netflix. The fourth entry in the franchise was made for the SyFy network, but has now been released to Netflix. By this point, we’re sure you’ve realised this is not the most intelligent series, but we’ll let you judge this one by it’s plot summary – “Reba the poacher is back, now an EPA agent. Black Lake is turned into a crocodile sanctuary surrounded by an electric fence. When the fence gets left open one night, a high-school field trip bus unknowingly enters the park. It’s up to Reba and the sheriff to save the kids from becoming crocodile chow”

New to Amazon Instant Video is the latest instalment in the Paranormal Activity series – The Marked Ones. While this one did receive mixed reviews, Evan Dickson of Bloody Disgusting was the first to give his impressions on the film, giving it a positive review of 4/5. Stating, “Fun, scary and remarkably cinematic within the found footage conceit, The Marked Ones might be the first Paranormal Activity movie that feels like an event film while you’re watching it”. Dickson also stated that it was “neck and neck with Paranormal Activity 3

Finally, for those of you in LA this weekend, the Hollywood Horrorfest is taking place at the New Beverley Cinema. We like this event in particular, because there’s a big emphasis on supporting independent horror. The festival explain – “Ultimately this is a great opportunity to screen, promote and sell your work – all in one place.  We can’t promise you’ll make a sale but we hope you will be far closer to your goal than ever before.  Or as we like to say…SCREEN, BE SEEN & MARKET YOUR DREAM.” Check out the festival website for more information.
