There’s few things more emblematic of classic horror than the haunted house. Foreboding dark houses are a staple of so many iconic horror films, and this artist has managed to use the symbol to explain mental illnesses and disorders. As many of you will know, we’re celebrating Disability in Horror Month, so we thought it was a perfect time to share Frederico Babina‘s clever illustrations.
The designs are fairly abstract, but capture the key concepts of the disorders they are portraying. They are easy to understand, yet complex and require a second look. Even if you haven’t personally suffered mental illness, it is easy to relate to the illustrations when remembering any difficulties you might have encountered – such as a bereavement of relationship breakdown. Check out the series below, and find out more about the artist on his website.
