Festival Preview: New York City Horror Film Festival

Welcome to our new Festival Preview feature. Here, we’ll be taking a look at upcoming horror festivals, including their history, the people behind them, and the awesome filmmaking talent being showcased. Today, let’s delve into the New York City Horror Film Festival, taking place this weekend at The Tribeca Film Center.

The History

The festival was established by Producer / Director Michael J. Hein in 2001. The NYCHFF is a week long event that takes place each November at venues throughout New York City. The Hein Family is committed to keeping the festival alive in memory of it’s founder Michael J Hein. The family has been involved with the horror genre for the past 30 years and The New York City Horror Film Festival is presented in memory of its Founder.

Since 2002, The New York City Horror Film Festival has given the Lifetime Achievement Award to a horror legend. The Award has become one of Americas most highly recognised and respected awards in the genre. Past recipients include –

The festival screens upwards of forty films each year, but let’s take a look at some of the most exciting things going on this weekend.
