We’re a nation inspired by magic and therefore wizards and witches. We’ve seen the latter appear in movies, TV shows, books and games. There are some who fancy the really evil ones, whilst there are others who love those witches who use their powers to help others. Whatever their role, they have been growing in popularity over the years, especially with shows like Game Of Thrones, Harry Potter, The Witches of East End, Salem and The Originals. This has actually spilled over into other aspects of our lives, so for example, we are now seeing game developers producing more games inspired by witches and spells.
Now that Halloween is approaching, witches are even more so in the spotlight. We can see brands like mFortune promoting their highly successful Which Witch mobile slot game to great effect. So there’s no denying that witches are extremely intriguing characters, with many of us infatuated with the spells and adventures. Hence the reason why we have taken the time to list who our favourite witches in pop culture are.
Hermione Grainger is one of the more recent witches to make an impact on pop culture, and she’s arguably the most popular of them all. This Harry Potter character may be known as a muggle, but she can more than hold her own when it comes to witchcraft. Her abilities help both herself and Harry and Ron get out of numerous sticky situations in the Harry Potter series, making her a witch who is very much adored by everyone and a household name.
Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Before Hermione Granger there was Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Sabrina’s a witch who everybody was inspired to be like. She wanted to be understood, while she still was trying to figure out the world around her. She always went out of her way to look after those close to her, while using her powers to do good, rather than bad. Yes, she did often get up to mischief, but was always ready to apologise if the need arose. She also had a talking cat too, who plays a key part in her life as a witch.
Ursula is a big and bubbly witch seen in hit film The Little Mermaid. Now, the first thing to be aware of is that she isn’t a witch who uses her powers for good. In fact, she’s imprisoned thousands of souls, which is extremely bad. However, she’s one of the most interesting characters in the film itself. She’s big, she’s brash and she’s devious, and this helps to make her really stand out in the movie.
Willow is a character from what was the very popular TV show Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. She was in fact the only person to possess magic power in the show, and this saw her willing to share it with others. She’s in Buffy’s inner circle of friends, the Scooby Gang, and she appears shy and nerdy from the outset. As she studies witchcraft, her skills begin to improve, and so does her confidence, making her a powerful witch. However, her powers begin to consume her, which then presents a whole world of problems.
