It might be April, but it’s never too early to start preparing for Halloween. We’re huge fans of Villafane Studio’s incredibly intricate, detailed pumpkin carvings. Founded by Ray Villafane, the carving studio was founded with the goal of inspiring creativity and imagination through temporary art. From carving for the President at the White House, carving for Heidi Klum’s Annual Halloween Party and along side Martha Stewart, Ray’s pumpkins have made their way across the World!
Ray Villafane was born in Queens, New York. At a young age he showed a talent for art; a passion that his mother encouraged him to pursue. Ray graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1991, before becoming an art teacher. While teaching, he began experimenting with pumpkin sculpting, initially as projects with his students. After several custom-carved requests from students’ parents, Ray realized he was on to something with his pumpkins and started offering them to local hotels and restaurants. Ray’s hobby of pumpkin sculpting was brought to an entirely new level in 2007 when he was contacted by High Noon Entertainment and asked to participate in the Food Network’s Challenge Show, Outrageous Pumpkins. Having assembled a team of amazing artists, the studio have ventured into sand carving, toy sculpting, and workshops.
