The Possession

A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl’s father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.

What saved this film from a strong dislike was the confrontation which takes place after a very wicked MRI scene…possibly my favorite special effect.

Horror Honeys
So, The Possession was kind of a neat flick, in that it revolves around the Jewish mythology of the Dybbuk, which is a spirit that haunts a box. I'm really interested in the vast mythologies of ghosts that exist in different cultures and so many movies fall back on the old woman in white type of ghost, so this was a pretty refreshing idea.

Horror on Screen
Once more, I think that modern special effects make possession movies a lot less real than in older times. However, The Possession is a lot more interesting, both visual and storywise, than most of the recent rubbish exorcism films (The Last Exorcism, The Devil Inside).
