Ah, the VCR. It holds a special place in the hearts of many horror fans. Collecting horror films on the VHS format has become a huge deal in the past five years with several Facebook collector groups popping up, newsworthy lists of tapes that fetch hundreds of dollars on the open-market, and the excellent documentary film Adjust Your Tracking: The Untold Story Of The VHS Collector covering the trend.
While the VHS covers are often praised for their iconic cover art, the actual VCR…not so much. I remember them mainly as ugly, cluncky black boxes that took up a lot of space – but this artist is giving them a new lease of life. Sorce CodeVhs created a graffiti art custom VCR and, as he was sitting at home watching VHS movies and browsing poster artwork online, the idea of illustrating those posters onto video recorders was born. Starting with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, he used his VHS collection as reference and created several more for happy customers.
