The Holland Razor Blade

It’s never too early to start celebrating Halloween. In fact, I’m doing a sweep of the local stores this afternoon to get early pickings on their Halloween goodies. At Popcorn Horror, it may as well be Halloween all year round. This inspired our new feature, where we’re going to make suggestions to accompany your Saturday night horror viewing. Featuring cocktails, nibbles and gruesome recipes, this feature will be going out every weekend. Let’s jump straight to our first entry, partially inspired by Sweeny Todd – The Holland Razor Blade.

Described as  “a delicious variation on the original drink documented by Charles H. Baker.  At first glance, the drink is little more than a strong Genever Sour.  A closer look, however, reveals its beautiful simplicity– the larger proportion of spirit gives the cocktail a bigger alcoholic kick while the cayenne provides a surprising burst of heat.” The drink even promises that “Whether Sweeney and friends were real or imagined, their bloody rampages are worth contemplating while you enjoy a Holland Razor Blade and ponder the long-seated connection between the culinary arts and the “barberic” ones”  [12BottleBar]
