Whether you lived through the era or are just a massive fan of Trick R Treat (or indie Halloween treat Honeyspider) – there’s no denying that retro monster masks are awesome. Often sold through order pages in magazines and newspapers around Halloween-time, the masks would often feature the classic Universal Monsters and were made of a rigid plastic which I’m told by older horror fans had a very distinct smell.
These classic masks are getting something of a resurrection in ‘Vac-Tastic Plastic‘. The project has recreated the feel of the 60s and 70s masks with some original designs, and blown them up to over 2 feet tall – perfect for hanging on the walls of your retro Halloween party!
The monsters of course make an appearance – alongside modern creatures like the Aliens from Mars Attacks.
