WiHM Short of the Week: VANILLA CAKE
Alex’s 16th birthday quickly takes a turn when he begins to discover the horror that is brewing under the surface of his family.
During February’s Women in Horror Month celebration, we’ll be spotlighting awesome short films from female horror directors. VANILLA CAKE was directed by horror and Halloween director and writer Crystal Pastis.
“Halloween night. 1998. I pressed my ear against the wall and waited until I heard the last bedroom door closed. I crawled down the stairs, pillowcase full of Halloween candy in hand. I jammed The Exorcist into our VHS player, and hit play. Two hours later, hiding under my Minnie Mouse blanket, I had never been more certain you could die from fear after watching a movie. And that was it for me. I was hooked on that thrill of what horror filmmaking could do.
Although this video would suggest otherwise, I am not a serial killer…or a baker for that matter. I’m just a girl who loves to make terrifying and bloody horror films.” – director Crystal Pastis
Writer: Crystal Pastis
Stars: Julie Mitchell, Coleton Ray
