Clowns are a little divisive, even for some horror nerds their too disturbing, while some of us love their gleeful, murderous ways. Even the most hardened horror lovers might find this upcoming ‘IT‘ screening a bit too terrifying.
The Alamo Drafthouse is celebrating the arrival of the 2017 cinematic take on Stephen King’s It with screenings of the film exclusively for clowns. The theater are even providing makeup artists to touch up the creepy souls coming to haunt the building for the night. As well as the film, they’re promising raffles and ‘terrifying merriment’ for those who want to brave the screenings.
The screenings came about as a response the backlash the cinema received when they hosted a women’s screening of Wonder Woman. A snarky commenter responded to the announcement, asking if they would offer “a male only screening for Thor: Ragnarok or a special screening for It that’s only for those who identify as clowns.”
The theater wrote back, “We might actually have to steal that clown idea.”
