In 1959 William Castle Launched EMERGO. In 2018, It’s Coming To Glasgow
Movie showman and horror icon William Castle was always inventing – trying to discover new ways of making films interactive long before the days of VR technology. His film had a campy, old-school horror tale vibe, and often featured bizarre stunts and features intended to frighten the audience.
In one of his best known horror works, House on Haunted Hill which starred the legendary Vincent Price was advertised to 50s horror enthusiasts as launching EMERGO, a new revolution of horror film presentation. Now at Glasgow Horror Fest 2018 the technology will be rising from the grave to screen the classic film as originally intended.
In many cinemas screening the film, exhibitors rigged a system near the theater screen which allowed a plastic skeleton to be flown over the audience during a corresponding scene late in the film. With the help of scare experts Scare Scotland, the festival is set to bring the effect back to present day horror fans for one night only!
“EMERGO! was billed as an “Amazing, New” effect that allowed “The Ghost To Emerge Right Off The Screen” in The House On Haunted Hill. Glasgow Horror Fest will also be reviving a few of Castle’s other infamous stunts; including having guests sign death warrants in cases of death by fright, and nurses on site to assist guests who have fainted due to terror.
Earlybird tickets for the festival are available to book now. Tickets for Glasgow Horror Fest 2018 include EVERYTHING. All areas, screenings, performances, attractions. We even included free popcorn and some horror gifts for the earlybird horror fans.
